Survey: Puerto Vallarta the 5th Safest City in Mexico

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – According to the most recent INEGI National Urban Public Security Survey (ENSU), corresponding to the third quarter of 2023, Puerto Vallarta remains the safest city in Jalisco, and has re-emerged as one of Mexico’s safest cities, ranking fifth in the country.

To determine the public’s perception of security in cities throughout Mexico, every year during the first two weeks of March, June, September and December, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) conducts a National Urban Public Security Survey among the population over 18 years of age who reside in the 75 cities considered to be of interest in the national territory.

In the September survey, published on Thursday, October 19, Puerto Vallarta stands out in the State of Jalisco with the lowest percentage of insecurity perception at 22.5%. Zapopan follows with 54.6%, Tlajomulco with 68.7%, Tonalá with 73.0%, Tlaquepaque with 73.1%, and Guadalajara with 77.8%.

On a national level, the INEGI survey positions Puerto Vallarta in fifth place among the cities with the lowest percentage of perceived insecurity.

The cities where residents felt safest were: Benito Juárez in Mexico City, with a 15.8% perception of insecurity; Piedras Negras, with 19.7%; San Pedro Garza García, with 20.8%; Cuajimalpa de Morelos, with 21.4%; Puerto Vallarta, with a 22.5% perception of insecurity; and Los Mochis, with 24.1 percent.

Nationally, the cities with the highest percentage of residents aged 18 and above who felt unsafe living in their cities were Fresnillo, with a staggering 95.4%; Ciudad Obregón, with 92.3%; Zacatecas, with 92.1%; Uruapan, with 91.5%; Naucalpan de Juárez, with 87.3%; and Toluca de Lerdo with 86.2%.

Puerto Vallarta’s achievement of being one of Mexico’s safest cities underscores the city’s ongoing efforts to create a welcoming and secure environment for its residents and visitors.
