Puerto Vallarta Gears Up for Traffic Relief with Major Road Project

Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas residents can look forward to smoother commutes thanks to a significant infrastructure project set to begin later this month. Jalisco’s Secretariat of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP), in conjunction with the municipal government, recently inspected the Cruce de las Juntas intersection, the site of the upcoming road improvements.

Edén Castillón Villaseñor, the city’s Director of Public Works, shared on social media details of the collaborative effort with SIOP officials. The inspection paved the way for the imminent construction of a new road junction designed to alleviate congestion in this frequently bottlenecked area.

The municipal government has already begun preparatory work, including the recent paving of Francisco Murguía Street, which connects Highway 200 to Highway 544 toward Ixtapa and Las Palmas. Simultaneously, the Mota-Engil construction company has started work on improving the exit from the last sretch of the Guadalajara-Puerto Vallarta shortcut, near the Military Zone north of the airport.

Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro unveiled the Las Juntas road node project during a visit on January 3rd. The ambitious plan features a main bridge to streamline traffic from Bahía de Banderas into Puerto Vallarta, along with two elevated additions (overpasses) on Highway 544 leading to Ixtapa.

The project also includes the rehabilitation of frontage roads near Home Depot and the removal of a traffic light, replaced by a pedestrian bridge. These improvements are designed to significantly improve traffic flow at this challenging intersection.

The state government is investing 730 million pesos in this transformative project, aiming to resolve the long-standing traffic issues at Las Juntas. The project will address traffic from the main avenue, as well as Highways 200 and 544, ultimately benefiting both locals and visitors.

While some traffic delays are expected during the construction phase, the long-term benefits of this project promise a more efficient and enjoyable travel experience for everyone.
