Puerto Vallarta: A Year of Progress Focused on Community Growth

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – In a celebratory gathering that filled the International Convention Center, Mayor Luis Munguía delivered his first government address, spotlighting a year of significant achievements and laying out a clear focus on the well-being of the city’s children. His message resonated with optimism, emphasizing that “children are winning” in Vallarta due to his administration’s dedicated efforts.

This dedication is most evident in the city’s approach to education. A standout initiative highlighted by the Mayor is the distribution of tablets to elementary school students. This innovative program establishes Puerto Vallarta as the only municipality in Jalisco to undertake such a project, demonstrating a forward-thinking commitment to equipping young learners for the digital age and representing a crucial investment in the future of the city’s youth.

Moving beyond education, the report detailed a historic level of investment in infrastructure, successfully completing more than 60 projects. These essential improvements included the paving of 35 streets and avenues to enhance mobility for residents across the city and its boroughs.

Furthermore, the administration bolstered community spaces by constructing playgrounds, school domes, and new bridges, providing direct benefits to numerous neighborhoods.

Mayor Munguía acknowledged the essential support of Governor Pablo Lemus, stating this partnership was instrumental in achieving results across public works, education, agriculture, and transportation. Chief of Staff Alberto Esquer attended the address and recognized the accomplishments of the Mayor and his team.

In addition to infrastructure, the Mayor highlighted significant strides in public health. The “Doctor Tucán” program has been a resounding success in expanding health services. Through two permanent and two mobile clinics. the program has provided essential medical care to over 20,000 people. Its effectiveness has been so notable that other major municipalities, including Tlaquepaque and Tlajomulco, have adopted the model to benefit their own communities.

Mayor Munguía offered an optimistic outlook to conclude his report, noting, “It has been a year of great achievements that are giving Vallarta a new lease on life. We still have more to do, but we continue to make steady progress.”

Following the Mayor’s address, the Puerto Vallarta DIF System presented its first 2024–2025 activity report, outlining crucial support for the city’s most vulnerable populations. Headed by Claudia Peña, the report listed numerous achievements in social assistance.

Peña passionately thanked the Mayor and the families of Vallarta, stating, “It is an honor to be part of the ‘Government of Good’ and to work alongside a man who deeply loves his people.” This noble project’s achievements include significant transformations in care facilities.

For the Senior Care Center (CAIAM) – thanks to a partnership with SEAPAL Vallarta, the Municipal Government, the Alas de Águila Foundation, and Villa Group – the community room, therapy area, and overall design of the center were completely transformed, creating a suitable home for twenty-one residents.

Similarly, all five Child Development Care Centers (CADIs), which serve nearly two thousand children, were remodeled and re-equipped. This crucial upgrade involved a joint investment of $7.2 million pesos from the Municipal DIF – raised partly through the Race for Children event – and the Jalisco DIF System.

Claudia Peña mirrored the Mayor’s sentiment, committing to an even broader scope of assistance in the coming year: “Next year, we’ll continue to expand our support, recruit more socially responsible people, and improve our services. That is, and will continue to be, our commitment!”

Taken together, the first year of Mayor Munguía’s administration has clearly set a positive trajectory for Puerto Vallarta. The strategic investments in infrastructure, innovative programs for children’s education and public health, and a revitalized commitment to social welfare through the DIF System are more than just a list of completed projects; they represent a solid foundation for sustained growth, giving the city a renewed sense of purpose and a promising outlook.
