Review: You Raise Me Up: The Music of Josh Groban at Coco Cabaret

Puerto Vallarta, México – You Raise Me Up: The Music of Josh Groban, featuring Nick Rogers, combines astonishing vocals, world-famous songs, and dynamic visuals to inspire and motivate audiences. With ballads, duets, and classics from stage, screen and pop culture, the show takes audiences on a theatrical and evocative musical journey.

Last week, I experienced this show and was overwhelmed with joy by the entire performance and the impressive vocals. It’s clear that Nick Rogers is a professionally trained vocalist. Each song was full of emotional, perfect inflection and flawless delivery. A few days prior to the show, I walked by Sanctuary PV on Nick’s Karaoke night and was blown away by his singing. I could hardly wait for his Josh Groban tribute once I heard him sing.

You Raise Me Up celebrates some of Josh Groban’s most notable songs. Josh is an American singer, songwriter, and actor. His first four solo albums have been certified multi-platinum, and he was charted in 2007 as the number-one best selling artist in the United States, with over 22.3 million records. As of 2022, he had sold over 25 million records worldwide.

Nick opened the show with the Josh Groban tune, “A World of Imagination” as he celebrated both the music and the message of “living our imagination as we become who we aspire to be.” We were also mesmerized by his rendition of the Phantom of the Opera song, “All I Ask of You.”

Nick sang an incredible duet with Vallarta favorite Effie Passero on video and in another video segment, 6 more of Vallarta’s vocalists sang and hummed along to the Groban favorite, “You Raise Me Up.” There were other gorgeous songs from Nick that touched us deeply.

The thread that ran through all the songs and dialogue was “being true to oneself.” Nick touched on Gay Liberation and its heroes. He challenged the audience to think of “what inspires each of us?” “What advice would we give to others about living our truth?” Even though we don’t always recognize it, we are all connected in energy and love!

Nick and guest star, Gloria Fiona, performed a breathtaking duet of the Joni Mitchell classic, “Both Sides Now.” And in a unique and fascinating video duet with himself and others, Nick performed the Don McLean classic, “Starry Starry Night.” And we also enjoyed “What I did for Love,” from the musical A Chorus Line along with a number of other well-delivered, familiar songs.

The show was directed by the multi-talented Jordon Carnegie and JT Hoenstein. There was a beautiful mix of song, video and message that spoke to each of us individually as we absorbed the fabulous vocals and the timely and emotional challenge to “Be the change. There’s so much to be thankful for.”

Nick Rogers has created a wonderful show that both entertains and reaches deep into our hearts. This is a beautiful man with a beautiful message! I loved this show so much that I definitely want to see it again.
