Urban Downhill Mountain Bike Race Returns to Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, México – The heart of Puerto Vallarta is set to transform into a high-octane sporting arena this spring as the city prepares for the exhilarating return of Downhill Puerto Vallarta.

Scheduled for May 1 and 2, 2026, this world-class urban mountain bike race will utilize the city’s unique geography, sending elite riders from the lush heights of the Sierra Madre mountains down to the sparkling shores of the Bay of Banderas. The event promises a stunning visual feast for the 30,000 spectators expected to line the Malecón and surrounding hillside streets and alleyways.

This invitation-only competition features an elite roster of 40 athletes representing more than ten countries, cementing the city’s status as a premier destination for extreme sports. Renowned riders such as Rémy Métailler, Kilian Bron, Jhony Salido, and Bienvenido Aguado are already confirmed to participate.

To ensure the course meets the highest international standards, the circuit was designed by acclaimed specialists Ollie Wilkins, Christian Fairclough, and Liam Mason. Their expertise has created a route that weaves through narrow streets, stairs and historic neighborhoods, challenging the world’s best exponents of the sport.

The weekend is structured to showcase two distinct yet complementary disciplines: downhill speed and freestyle acrobatics. Friday, May 1, will focus on official practice sessions and track familiarization, allowing riders to master the technical urban terrain.

The energy will reach its peak on Saturday, May 2, during the main competition, which culminates in the fan-favorite Best Trick contest. Ernesto Rivas Butcher, president of Sabino Producciones, noted that this format celebrates the unique identity of both speed-driven racing and gravity-defying ramp displays.

By integrating the local community into the heart of the action, the race effectively turns our city streets into a world-stage sporting venue. Extensive media partnerships with networks such as ESPN, Fox, Disney+, and National Geographic ensure that the world is watching.

This global visibility showcases the natural beauty of the region alongside the incredible skill of the athletes, reinforcing the area’s reputation as a top-tier host for international competition.

Specific start times and precise course locations have not yet been disclosed to the public. Enthusiasts and residents are encouraged to stay tuned for more information as those details become available.
