Mexico is securing its future as a global leader in high-tech industry following a massive US$1 billion investment by Flex. This project focuses on the production of data centers and artificial intelligence equipment, a move that is expected to generate over 5,000 specialized jobs. Government officials and business executives view this as a significant boost to the country’s role in the international technology supply chain.
President Claudia Sheinbaum highlighted the initiative as a cornerstone of the nation’s development strategy, noting that it reflects a deep confidence in the Mexican workforce. The investment will be rolled out over the next three years, with a primary focus on the states of Jalisco, Chihuahua, and Aguascalientes.
According to Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard, this expansion could place Mexico among the top six nations globally for data center and AI manufacturing.
This progress is part of a larger trend of economic growth. Since October 2024, Mexico has successfully attracted more than US$300 billion in investment.
The new Flex project is particularly notable as the company’s largest single investment in the country to date. Guillermo del Río, a director at Flex, credited the success of the company to the exceptional talent found within Mexico, which has allowed for the development of highly advanced manufacturing capabilities.

The surge in manufacturing coincides with a rapid digital transformation across the nation. Recent data from INEGI shows that nearly 40% of Mexican companies have already integrated AI into their daily operations. Furthermore, the installation of over 5,000 industrial robots across various sectors indicates a successful shift toward modern automation. Experts from Centro México Digital suggest that this widespread adoption of AI could increase the national GDP by as much as 6%.
As technology becomes more central to business, the infrastructure supporting it is also evolving. The Mexican Association of Data Centers (MEXDC) noted that while AI increases energy needs, it also creates a perfect opportunity to modernize the electrical grid and accelerate the transition to clean energy. This modern infrastructure will be essential for staying competitive in cloud services and advanced manufacturing.
The labor market is adapting to these changes with a focus on human-centered innovation. A study by EY-Parthenon found that every CEO surveyed in Mexico identifies AI as a key driver for profitability in 2026. Rather than replacing workers, companies are looking to hire “hybrid” professionals – people who can combine technical skills like programming with strategic thinking.
This collaborative approach between people and technology aims to enhance productivity and ensure that Mexico remains at the forefront of global innovation.
