Nuevo Nayarit, Mexico – The shores of Yucaltepec, Yucatán, provided the backdrop for a triumphant display of skill as the Nayarit sailing delegation secured two prestigious medals at the 2026 CONADE National Games. After months of rigorous preparation in the familiar waters of Banderas Bay, the team’s dedication culminated in a standout performance on the national stage.

Sanka Bourquin led the charge by claiming first place in the ILCA 7 category, while Inti Bourquin followed closely with a second-place finish in the ILCA 6.
These specific classes, formerly known as the Laser and Laser Radial, represent some of the most competitive and widely recognized racing sailboats in the world. Because the ILCA is a single-handed dinghy designed for strict uniformity, victory depends entirely on the sailor’s tactical prowess and physical endurance rather than the age or cost of the equipment.
This success highlights the effective partnership between the Government of the State of Nayarit and the Vallarta Yacht Club. By combining resources and expertise, this alliance has successfully established the region as a premier training ground for world-class competitive sailors. The commitment to mentoring young talent has clearly paid off, positioning these athletes as leaders in their field.
The Vallarta Yacht Club and regional sports authorities expressed immense pride in the entire team’s conduct and professionalism throughout the regatta. These achievements not only bring honor to the state but also inspire the next generation of sailors currently honing their craft along the Pacific coast.

The Vallarta Yacht Club is a non-profit membership organization known for its contributions to yachting within the Banderas Bay region. For more information, please visit vallartayachtclub.org or follow the VYC on Facebook, or call (322) 297-2222.
