Preventive Measures Against Covid No Longer Mandatory in Jalisco

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Given the notable decrease in COVID-19 cases, coupled with the percentage of vaccines applied to date, the Jalisco Health Secretariat reports that preventive measures for this disease are no longer mandatory throughout the state. Meanwhile, the federal government eliminated mask mandates in airports, as well as on flights, in all of Mexico.

Mexico Ends Mask Mandates in Airports and on Flights

According to El Financiero, the federal government, through the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) last week eliminated the obligation to wear a face mask in airport facilities, as well as on flights in Mexico.

In a statement, the aeronautical authority explained that the air terminals are spacious and ventilated enough so that the measure becomes the decision of each traveler.

The AFAC added that the aircraft used for flights to and from Mexico have hospital-quality air filter systems that eliminate almost all bacteria and viruses.

Mexico joins countries such as the United States, Panama and some European countries that have eliminated the wearing of masks during trips.

The use of face masks on flights was mandatory for almost 2 years, following the measures established by the health authority, in the face of contagion in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Preventive Measures Against Covid-19 are No Longer Mandatory in Jalisco

According to the news website, Contra Línea, given the notable decrease in active COVID-19 cases and the low positivity rate that has been maintained for the last four weeks, coupled with the percentage of vaccine applications to date, the Jalisco Health Secretariat (SSJ), reports that preventive measures for this disease are no longer mandatory throughout the state.

The government agreement that leaves without effect the mandatory nature of the sanitary measures was published on October 13, 2022 in the Official Newspaper “El Estado de Jalisco,” coming into force that day.

It should be remembered that the repealed decree, which stipulated the mandatory use of face masks in public transport, health facilities (doctor’s offices, clinics, hospitals, pharmacies and laboratories) and in air, land and maritime terminals, was only valid until October 31.

Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro acknowledged that the 2+ years of obligatory mask wearing and other sanitary measures have been tiring but, at the same time, he called on citizens not to lower their guard. He asks citizens to continue frequent hand washing, the application of alcohol gel, and covering of the nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing – especially during the current winter season (October 2022 to March 2023).
