Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – During the first half of the year, 322.8 million liters of tequila were produced, a slightly higher amount compared to the 315 million liters of tequila that were produced between January and June 2022, the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) reported.
Of the 322.8 million liters produced, 216 million liters were exported, up from the 203.5 million liters shipped abroad during the same period of last year. Of the total exports to date in 2023, 56.9 million liters correspond to tequila sold in bulk and 159.1 liters in bottled products.
Most of the exports went to the United States, which continues to be the main market for the national distillate, followed by Spain, Germany, France, Canada, Colombia and Australia.
Regarding the consumption of agave for the elaboration of the Mexican drink, the CRT reported that from January to June of this year, one million 130 thousand tons were used, compared to the one million 113 thousand tons utilized in the same period of 2022.
From January through December of 2022, a total of 651.5 million liters of tequila were produced, 416.8 million liters of tequila were exported and 2.6 million tons of agave were consumed.
“Tequila is now experiencing its best period. Thanks to the joint work with the authorities and all the sectors of the Agave Tequila Productive Chain, we have managed to break our own records,” said Miguel Ángel Domínguez, president of the CRT.
