In the heart of Puerto Vallarta, 50 children wake up each day in safety, surrounded by care, laughter, and the promise of a brighter future – thanks to El Refugio Infantil Santa Esperanza, AC, better known as R.I.S.E. Founded in 2001 by Padre Luis and Madre Mari, this non-profit offers a secure, loving home for children facing unsafe or difficult circumstances.
For more than two decades, R.I.S.E. has been a crucial safety net for local families in crisis. A dedicated team of over 20 staff and volunteers ensures every child has nutritious meals, clothing, education, medical care, and a true sense of belonging. Here, music, play, and learning fill the days – and hope fills the future.
The shelter operates almost entirely on private and corporate donations. While government support helps with some medical and nutritional needs, it’s community generosity that keeps doors open and hearts full.
As the new school year approaches, RISE needs your help to prepare the children for success.

- 30 backpacks
- 30 lunch boxes or carriers
- Diapers (sizes 1, 3, 4, 5, and 7)
- Monetary donations for daily essentials

R.I.S.E. (Refugio Infantil Santa Esperanza) is a privately funded, 50-bed children’s shelter in Puerto Vallarta, providing a loving environment for children who are “at risk” at home or have no home. These resilient children range in age from 18 months to mid-teens. For over 20 years RISE has operated with a combination of a great staff and a team of volunteers that keep RISE running.
