Puerto Vallarta is known as a welcoming destination for visitors and full-time residents alike, but it is also a place where giving back can make a meaningful difference. Many children in the Bay of Banderas region face serious challenges, including hunger, limited access to education, abandonment, and medical needs. The International Friendship Club (IFC) works year-round to help improve their lives through community support and charitable programs.
The IFC is made up of English-speaking residents and visitors who volunteer their time, resources, and financial support to benefit children throughout the region. That spirit of generosity was clearly on display at the IFC’s Opening Reception posada on December 13. More than 100 guests attended the festive evening, raising approximately 41,662 pesos for the club’s charitable mission.
The event featured live music by the Salty Paw Jazz Orchestra and a special performance by singers from ALAS Escuela de Canto. Both groups receive partial support from IFC grants, which help fund items such as musical instruments, microphones, and sheet music. Guests also contributed generously to a toy collection for the children of Refugio Infantil Santa Esperanza. Adding to the evening’s goodwill, 50/50 raffle winner Linda Drake donated her winnings back to IFC-supported charities.

Building on that momentum, the IFC’s annual Toy Drive began on December 15 and runs through January 5, 2025. Donated toys will be distributed to underserved children in the Bay of Banderas on Three Kings Day, celebrated on January 6. This holiday is one of Mexico’s most cherished traditions and marks the day children traditionally receive gifts. The IFC requests that donated toys be new, non-violent, not battery-operated, and safe for children of all ages.
The club’s popular Dine Arounds have also resumed, offering members and guests the chance to share meals while discovering local restaurants. The next Dine Around will be held on Friday, December 26, at Casa Tradicional, known for its authentic Mexican cuisine and inviting setting. Additional mid-week and Saturday Dine Arounds are planned throughout the season.
Looking ahead to the New Year, the IFC’s highly rated Home Tours will restart on January 6, providing visitors with a unique look inside some of Puerto Vallarta’s most interesting homes. Later in the month, the Annual General Meeting will take place on Monday, January 19, at 5:00 pm at the IFC Clubhouse. Members will vote on the 2026 budget and board slate, followed by a complimentary Member Appreciation Night with live music and refreshments.
The IFC is also preparing for its annual Día de la Amistad 50/50 Raffle, with tickets available online. Proceeds support the club’s charitable programs, including cleft palate care and educational and social service grants awarded each spring.
Through events, outings, raffles, tours, and donations, the International Friendship Club continues to make a lasting impact on children and families throughout the Bay of Banderas. Participation in any IFC activity helps ensure these important programs can continue to grow and serve those most in need.
