Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Big changes are in store for the 2020 edition of the Puerto Vallarta Chili Cook-Off, set to be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020. For starters, we say goodbye to our long-time home El Rio BBQ Bar and hello to Parque Parota’s large open space, which will allow us welcome even more attendees, more chili vendors, more activities, more vendors, more bands, and more fun!
El Rio has been a great host for the Cook-Off and we thank owner Kurt Sinner for his assistance and dedication over the past 7 years. However, most welcomed growth in attendance (50% increase each of the past two years) had us looking for more space.
The 8th annual PV Chili Cook-Off will feature something for everyone. The move to Parque Parota, located at Blvd. Francisco Medina Ascencio #2264, next to Puerto del Luna and across the street from Villa del Palmar Beach Resort in the Hotel Zone, will allow us to feature up to 30 Chili cookers, each with their own 3m x 3m space, which will allow faster lines for chili tastings.
Also new for 2020: the Jay Sadler Beer Garden, Murphy’s Craft Beer Bar, Manny’s Bloody Mary Bar, the Twisted Palms Martini Bar, the Nacho Daddy Cocktail Lounge, the El Torito Rib Station, Fish Tacos by Pescadito, Comida Mexicana from Tacos Revolution, ice cream from Helartesano, and desert from PV Cupcakes. And on our stage some of the best musical groups from the greater Puerto Vallarta area.
Doors open at 12:00 pm. Chili will be served from 1:00 to 4:00 pm and voting will run from 1:00-3:00 pm. Demonstrating their continuing commitment to the Cook-Off and to the Jay Sadler Project, Hollis, Head BBQ Chef at El Rio BBQ, will be one of the Cook-Off judges.
Don’t miss this great family event featuring chili tasting, entertainment, and a wide variety of food and drink. Buying an advanced ticket, either online at PVChiliCookoff.com or at participating restaurants and bars in Puerto Vallarta, not only saves you $50 off the at-the-gate price, but also allows you to enter the grounds at 11:30 am. Ticket sales at the gate on February 22 will not start until 12:00 Noon and you will pay the full price of $300 pesos.
All proceeds from the Chili Cook-Off will go to The Jay Sadler Project, a Jalisco based non-profit doing good works in the less-fortunate communities of the greater Bay of Banderas area. They provide necessary resources to improve various institutions in the Banderas Bay area and Puerto Vallarta. These include Day Care Centers, Senior Citizens Homes, and Schools for the Disabled, Public Schools in rural areas and other private charitable institutions. They also provide building maintenance, repairs and install playgrounds in the community. JSP works with government social agencies to identify those in need as well as with DIF and Navy League of Vallarta on Community Relations Projects.
Fundraising events such as the annual Chili Cook-Off and PV Poker Tour help provide the necessary funds to continue their work. To learn more about the JSP’s community projects, visit JaySadlerProject.com.
