PuRR Project Puerto Vallarta April 2026 News

Puerto Vallarta, México – The latest news from PuRR Project, a non-profit, no-kill feline shelter just north of Puerto Vallarta that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal of adopting them out to loving homes sterilized, vaccinated and disease free.

UPCOMING EVENTS

GARAGE SALE: The date is set for Saturday, April 18 for our Big Spring Sale! Gates will open at 9:00. We’re now collecting donated items at Gaviotas 143, Marina Vallarta or you can email us at donate(at)purrproject.com if you need items picked up. Remember, ones man’s trash is another man’s treasure, so start getting rid of that “stuff” you no longer need!

KITTY BINGO: The April date is Wednesday the 22nd. Games start at 4:00 at Nacho Daddy in Old Town and we have a lot of great prizes waiting for winners who shout “MEOW!”. So mark your PuRR Calendar and grab a friend to join in and have some fun while supporting the 300+ cats and kittens at the shelter.

SATURDAY MARKET: We’ll be at our regular spot outside Daiquiri Dick’s every Saturday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm (except the 18th) with all the PuRR logo T-shirts, caps, mugs, drink holders and the ever-popular dish towels. They all make great gifts for your cat-loving friends and family… and yourself!

FEATURED FELINES: LALA & LALO

Abandoned at the shelter at 2 weeks old, Lala had already lost one eye and Lalo appeared to be mostly blind. If you’ve ever wondered what kind of life a blind kitten has, these 2 will show you they can do just at well as sighted kittens. They are incredibly adaptable and with the help of their other senses, they easily find their food, water, toys and each other to play with. Don’t hesitate to adopt a sight impaired kitten… they will do just fine! For more information, contact Linda at adopt(at)purrproject.com.

ADOPTIONS

The PetCo Adoption Center is still our best source of adoptions but March was another slow month with only 6 at PetCo. We were thrilled when Kathy Lay found Forever Homes for 3 of her six fosters at Daiquiri Dick’s! Then Heather Galimberti & son Liam flew down from Toronto to adopt Waffles (now Violet) & Eliza to join their other PuRR kitties Quentin & Nico!

THE POWER OF LOVE

March brought us a situation that reminds us of the powerful nurturing instinct of mother cats. Tina was nursing her litter of five who were born at the shelter when two newborns were left at the shelter without their mother. One baby did not survive the ordeal, but we placed the one that did in Tina’s care. The new mom readily accepted the responsibility of caring for a kitten that was not her own and was smaller than her five.

GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE! ARIGATO!

We REALLY appreciated the generous donations in March from Cherri Gillmore, Beverly & Joseph Cairns, Steve Stowall, Paramount Bay Sunset Yoga, Cathering Goglia and Joyce Nordquist!

As always, we are grateful for those monthly donors who are so essential to our success: The McCullough Family Gift Fund, Gary Phillips, Sharon & Ken Rose, Terri & Gray Levy, Joanne Bryla, Trisha Aljoe, Pat & Sandy Glenn, Catherine Goglia & Jim Shoemaker, Karen & Walt Trolson, Shari Stone-Ulrich, Robert Weed, Jerry Petrizzo, Heidi Benedict, Timothy Oleno, Larry Sherwood, Mary & Bob Fitzgerald, David Flannery, Elizabeth Fuerherm, Janice North, Katie Hannasch and new donor Dorothy Scrementi!

A SPECIAL THANKS TO THE DONORS OF KITTY BINGO PRIZES THIS SEASON

Bravos, Siam Cocina Thai, Tuna Azul, Langostinos, Let’s Pho, La Dolce Ristorante, Memo’s Place, Ernesto’s, Cassandra Shaw, Deja New, Los Chatos, Noah’s Cafe, Carol McCullough, Connie Argus, Joyce Nordquist, Ken Rose, Pat Fields, Brenda Gill and we hope we didn’t forget anyone!
