Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Sometimes the best way to handle a stressful world is to sing about the things that make life happy. In her latest playful reflection, MiMi Bomba borrows a familiar tune to celebrate the simple pleasures of Puerto Vallarta – warm sand, good food, sunsets, sweet people, and the comforting joy of everyday moments in Mexico.
Here is my happy little song:
Think Sound of Music.
Get ready for some Spanglish…
To the tune of My Favorite Things. Sing along! Canta conmigo!
Toes in the warm sand and bolsas with puppies
Smiles on sweet faces and tacos in tummies.
Sunrises, sunsets, and maybe green flashes;
Saltwater dripping from niños’ eyelashes.
A day in Vallarta,
like everyone oughta,
These are a few of my favorite things.
Sopa de Pollo de La Carreta
es el mejor del mundo, I really do betcha!
Helado de LIx, caramelo salado
with nuts and with chocolate, es preparado.
Believe me, I know how silly this all is. I am just doing my best to not obsess over the sad and awful things that are happening in the world right now. I won’t go into it because I do not want to bring a firestorm of division onto my head from the US. I am an American by birth, as are my children, grandchildren, parents, grandparents, cousins, et cetera.
However, my choice now is to live here in Mexico and visit my family from time to time. I have met so many wonderful people here: Canadians, Mexicans, other Americans, both North and South. A couple of Pendejos as well, but that is a story for another day. Today I am thinking only about my favorite things. I can do it as long as I stay off the internet. Not easy. Too many ubiquitous pop-ups. As Deb Darling says, “Lord a Mercy!”
